"To my astonishment I experienced no pain and very little discomfort. Strange as it may seem I enjoyed the whole experience and I would have no hesitation in recommending Amit...” and his nurses for any dental treatment. I would not hesitate (to do it again), the man’s a genius."
"I now have two implants which sit very comfortably in what was a big gap. It is about 12 days since the implants were completed and I am happily chewing...” with them and they feel just like my other teeth. I can now happily smile and eat and would certainly have implants again."
"The procedure took aprox six months and I feel that I made the right decision my teeth look and feel like my own teeth and the implants have been very...” successful. Implants are not in my opinion expensive when you consider the dentistry involved and the benefits compared to a plate."
"Mr Amit Patel’s approach to explaining all about periodontal disease and treatment was excellent. He was very reassuring and put me at ease all through my treatment. Thanks Amit and...” your staff for taking such good care of me during my treatment, and will see you in around two months for my check-up."
"After almost 2 years of on and off abscesses and many, many trips to my dentist and hygienist I can honestly say I couldn't have been more relieved to be...” referred by my dentist to Amit - a periodontal and implant specialist. For years I have been really careful and almost obsessive about cleaning my teeth; brushing 3 -4 times a day, using mouth washes and weekly flossing; so to be told I had chronic periodontal disease was devastating. I have seen the posters of the disease and my teeth did not look unhealthy on the outside, neither did they bleed that often but I knew the recurring abscesses, courses of antibiotics, and throbbing tooth ache and bleeding when I flossed wasn't right. So whilst I was nervous, emotional and feared I would lose my teeth and have black gaping holes in my mouth I attended my first appointment. Amit explained the disease and helped me understand the treatment and also the options I could consider. He showed me close up photographs and x-rays of periodontal disease before and after treatment. He showed me the x-rays of my teeth and showed me what to look for and explained how my gums, teeth and bone had been affected by the disease. He gave me all the time I needed and was very honest and explained that gum disease is not always visible but if left untreated, like mine had been, can progress to a chronic state. He also said I was under no obligation to have the root planing treatment and explained how I might feel during, straight after and after 3 months. He also made it clear that the key to a very good response to the treatment is meticulous cleaning; Amit used a mirror and interdental brushes and coached me on how to clean my teeth to get the best result. After taking many measurements of my teeth - lots of numbers using a probe, the next appointment was the root planing treatment. I knew what to expect but I can honestly say that whilst it was tiring to be so tense and in the dentist chair for a couple of hours my mouth was so numb I didn't feel any pain - just a slight pinch and a weird tingling feeling when the injections were done. My whole mouth, tongue, cheeks and chin were numb, I felt no pain and Amit was careful to make sure every part of my mouth was numb and that the numbness lasted for the duration. After 24 hours I brushed for the first time, very gently, then used interdental brushes after 48 hours. My electric toothbrush wasn't nice to use as it sent vibrations in to my teeth roots but the brushes were surprisingly easy to use. It was a bit of a shock to find large pockets between my teeth that weren't there before and even more strange to find that my gums moved when I brushed which made me feel a bit queasy. After I got used to it though and remembered Amit's advice on meticulous cleaning by the third or fourth day I was able to brush normally and use the brushes easily. After about 2 weeks I found my gums had started to shrink back and the pockets weren't so loose and I gradually began to use smaller brushes. I didn't experience very much sensitivity like Amit said I might feel; the only exception was when I used the antibacterial gel on my brushes which made the vibrations of my electric toothbrush feel too harsh. This stopped as soon as I stopped using the gel. I continued to brush twice a day, slowly and carefully using a mirror to make sure I had covered every surface and used the brushes every night. My follow up appointment (3 months) involved the probe again and lots of numbers. This time I was so relieved to find the numbers had gone down from a bad 9 to a good 3 in some cases. The gums that were previously so severely affected are now pink and healthy and whilst my gum line looks like I have slightly longer teeth in some places it is hardly noticeable. Amit found just one area that needed more localised attention but by following up with brushing and cleaning it should improve as much as the rest of my gums. The root planing treatment, followed by my careful cleaning has undoubtedly stabilised my gums and has probably saved me from losing my teeth and having big gaping holes in my mouth. I realise that I will need to see a hygienist every 3 months and to brush this way now for as long as I have teeth but I can't help thinking that if I had seen a periodontal specialist earlier I may not have had so severe a problem and had I not seen a specialist such as Amit I would have undoubtedly lost several of my teeth. Hopefully now each time I have a check up those numbers will stay at a healthy level. What can say - but thank you for specialists like Amit who understand the fear of gum disease and can explain periodontal treatments with unembellished bare bones facts and as a testimony conduct the treatment with successful results."
"I attended Amit Patel's practice for a consultation regarding the possibility of having two implants inserted. I immediately liked his no nonsense honesty with regard to cleaning my teeth generally....” He spent a good 30 minutes showing me how to clean my teeth properly, it was suprising just how effective it can be when you learn the proper cleaning technique. Amit emphasised the importance of clean and healthy gums if I was going to have implants; he taught me how to floss correctly too! It's easy when you've been shown how to do it properly. He told me that the procedure would be pain free - and it was. I had built it up in my head prior to arriving that it was going to be very painful. Hand on heart, once the injections took hold, I didn't feel any pain at all. All you are aware of is pressure whilst the implants are being inserted. Amit talked to me all the way through the hour long procedure explaining what he was doing and what to expect - at one point I nearly fell asleep, that's how relaxed I was in the end. The stitches felt a little tight for a few days and then this went off two or three days later. The whole procedure was uneventful actually. I can honestly say that I had no pain after the injections wore off at all, nobody was more surprised than me. I was able to eat dinner that night. I had to wait for three months for the implants to stabilize. When I went back, Amit took some impressions and then 10 days later, I went back to have the crowns cemented onto the implants. They look and feel great - in fact, they feel like they have always been there. I did my homework and Googled Amit prior to making the appointment and was very impressed with his qualifications. I looked on the General Dental Council website and discovered that he is on the "Specialist List" and was also lecturing other dentists all over the country and internationally at conferences. I consulted with a dentist friend of mine in Coventry and he recommended Amit and I am happy to recommend him wholeheartedly to you. Incidentally, he felt like a friend by the end of the treatment, he has a very easy-going manner, cheerful and up-beat - his glass is definitely half full."
"Why did you choose to come to see me? Sorry, I did not choose you my dentist did and it was an excellent choice." How did you find Amit Patel's approach to...” explaining periodontal disease and its treatment? Did he reassure you and put you at ease? Excellent approach, He made me feel at ease and I was ready to listen as to how and what the treatment I would received. Every step of the way he explain and also show me how to take of my teeth. What did the treatment process involve and how long did it take? First was the consultation where he showed me how to deep clean by using a range of small brushes, some pictures were taken and explain to me. next was the deep root cleaning which was done under local injections. (only half of my mouth was done at a time) this was followed with the other half done a week later. It took about one hour per visit. Did you experience much discomfort after the periodontal therapy? Was this as you had expected? Yes I did only on the one side of my mouth which was the worse side. No I did not expect it to last as long as it did even though I was still on pain killers. What was the outcome of your periodontal therapy? Eg preventing further tooth loss, no more bleeding gums, healthier pink gums and firmer teeth to bite on. Great outcome so far even though it is early days, I have seen healthier pink gums, no more bleeding of gums, firmer teeth to bite, gums tighten up around the teeth. I hope I will not loose any more tooth. Would you recommend the periodontal therapy to a friend or family if they had similar problems? YES"
"Why did you choose to come to Amit Patel? I was referred by my own dentist. How did you find Amit Patel's approach to explaining periodontal disease and its treatment? Did...” he reassure you and put you at ease? During the first appointment I received a full assessment of my teeth and gums. Such examinations and the prospect of treatment are often quite daunting but the friendly and professional manner in which everything was clearly explained, with time allowed for questions and discussion, left me feeling very much at ease and with a clear picture of what was to be involved and an optimistic view that something could be achieved. What did the treatment process involve and how long did it take? The second appointment involved an hour long session during which my teeth were scraped under my gums. The local anesthetics given prior to treatment and to their subsequent wearing off were probably the worst part of the process, but at no time did I feel unduly stressed as I was given much attention and reassurance throughout. Did you experience much discomfort after the periodontal therapy? Was this as you had expected? I experienced some pain for a few days after which things started to settle down. I also found that my teeth were particularly sensitive to hot and cold something which I had not previously experienced. Eventually this sensitivity diminished. As I had been warned that there would be some ensuing pain I was not overly concerned about it and took painkillers when needed, though probably only for about two weeks in all. What was the outcome of your periodontal therapy? Eg preventing further tooth loss, no more bleeding gums, healthier pink gums and firmer teeth to bite on. In all its aspects I am very satisfied with periodontal therapy and it has been most worthwhile. Would you recommend the periodontal therapy to a friend or family if they had similar problems? I would have no reservations in recommending such therapy to family members or friends as I am fully confident in the success of the treatment."
"Why did you choose to come to see me? I was recommended by Baz, after breaking a front tooth that had been previously crowned and was now impossible to re-crown. ...” The alternative was a false tooth on a plate, which i did not really want. How did you find Amit Patel's approach to explaining dental implants and the treatment process? Did he reassure you and put you at ease? I could not have wished for better. He was kind, patient, very informative and unhurried, which I found very reassuring. His relaxed and friendly manner was second to none. What did the treatment process involve and how long did it take? A list of the treatment process was given to me so I knew exactly what would happen and when with lots of time to rest and recover in between. I first had to have the root taken out and replaced with temporary tooth on a plate so there was never a time when I had a gap, for which I was very grateful. Next came the implant itself which was done so efficiently I could hardly believe it was in. Another period of healing, while everything settled down and then the final impressions for my new tooth. The whole process was about 6 months. Did you experience much discomfort after the implant placement? Was this as you had expected? No pain, just a little discomfort, I had some pain relief tablets just in case, but did not need to take them. It was not what I expected at all, it was much better, all carried out in relaxed and friendly atmosphere. So much so I actually looked forward to my appointments for the different stages. Were you happy with the final results achieved? Extremely, not one person has been able to tell which one is the implant. The colour match and size are absolutely spot on. Would you do it again and do you think its a good investment? Yes I would definitely do it again, but only with Amit Patel. It has been a very good investment, I can eat anything I like and clean my teeth in exactly the same way. Would you recommend dental implants to a friend or family? I most certainly would recommend dental implants, it is much nicer way to have a tooth or teeth replaced rather than false teeth on a plate. How do your new teeth feel in your mouth? What new teeth!! These are mine, its like they have always been there with no difference from my home grown ones."
"Why did you choose to come to see me? I had been to see my dentist who thought it might be a good idea to see some one who was a...” periodontal specialist How did you find Amit Patel's approach to explaining periodontal disease and its treatment? Did he reassure you and put you at ease? When I first saw Amit he explained everything to me I must admit I was a little frightened but I was put at ease by everything Amit had told me. As I have a great fear of dentists I must admit that I really was put at ease with Amit What did the treatment process involve and how long did it take? The treatment was root scaling I was told everything I needed to know and Amit told me everything I needed to know so I knew what to expect and Amit said if I needed to know anything I only had to ask but to be honest he explained everything to me perfectly and I felt reassured Did you experience much discomfort after the periodontal therapy? Was this as you had expected? After I had had the treatment I knew that I would have some pain but put Amit prepared me for this by giving me some pain killers when I returned home after a couple of hours I took a pain killer as I knew my mouth would be a little sore but in fact I felt little pain and went out 2 day later for a meal ( yes it was a little uncomfortable but nothing like I had imagined ) What was the outcome of your periodontal therapy? Eg preventing further tooth loss, no more bleeding gums, healthier pink gums and firmer teeth to bite on. Since the treatment my gums look a lot healthy I now have no bleeding when I clean my teeth and my gums are no longer sore Would you recommend the periodontal therapy to a friend or family if they had similar problems? If some one was to ask me about this treatment I would recommend Amit every time As he always made me feel at ease always explained everything to me and I always felt that if there was something I needed to ask then I could ask. For many years I have suffered a fear of dentist but I must admit Amit and my regular dentist Gemma have put me at ease I certainly would recommend Amit to any one."
"Why did you choose to come to see me? Recommended by my general dentist Nita Patel. How did you find Amit Patel's approach to explaining dental implants and the treatment process? Did...” he reassure you and put you at ease? Amit explained the treatment would take a few months and not 2 weeks like I thought after watching several makeover shows. What did the treatment process involve and how long did it take? One dental implant to replace my front tooth. I previously had several veneers and crowns that did not last. Did you experience much discomfort after the implant placement? Was this as you had expected? Amit did worn me the swelling would be severe but I was a little shocked but it went down quickly. Were you happy with the final results achieved? Yes I am very happy with the results Would you do it again? If I needed to I would Would you recommend dental implants to a friend or family? Yes I have told my friends at work. They never noticed when I was having the treatment. They comment on how it looks like my natural tooth. How do your new teeth feel in your mouth? At first it felt funny but now I don’t notice it."
"Due to infection I lost one of my top molar teeth and the resulting gap left me feeling uncomfortable, as well as looking unsightly. However, from the first consultation with...” Mr Patel the process of using an implant to improve the situation was explained in a clear and patient manner, and questions were welcomed and honestly answered. I received this calm and informative approach throughout my treatment. I can also honestly say that there was minimum discomfort involved at any time. The final implant appeared natural alongside my other teeth and felt very comfortable to bite on; in fact it quickly stopped registering that I had an implant. What I particularly liked was the friendly and professional treatment I received from Mr Patel and the dental staff; and of course the new tooth which was all that I could have wished for."
"Why did you choose to come to see me? Having made the decision to have an implant I looked for someone with experience and was referred by my dentist. How did you...” find Amit Patel's approach to explaining dental implants and the treatment process? Did he reassure you and put you at ease? Amit explained to me before and during the procedure and all my questions were answered. The atmosphere was efficient and very friendly and every care was taken for my comfort. What did the treatment process involve and how long did it take? The first stage involved x-rays to check the bone density and an extraction. After 3 months the implant was screwed in the bone and the gum was stitched leaving a little cap sitting in the top. After a further 3 months the implant was checked to see if it had taken, then impressions were taken. Two weeks later the tooth was fitted. Did you experience much discomfort after the implant placement? Was this as you had expected? I was provided wit pain killers but did not need to take any as I had no pain just a slight bruised feeling for a few days if I pressed on the jaw. I had expected to feel more bruising. Amit telephoned me in the evening to check that I was not having any problems. Were you happy with the final results achieved? I was extremely happy with the result Would you do it again and do you think its a good investment? I did have a second implant. It is expensive but so are good fitting dentures. Would you recommend dental implants to a friend or family? Yes How do your new teeth feel in your mouth? The teeth feel as if they had grown naturally!"
